The Falkirk and Linlithgow Hockey Club take on the Men’s 10K Edinburgh for Down’s Syndrome Scotland“Taking on the 10k gives us a focus and motivation to work that little bit harder each week.”
The incredible Falkirk and Linlithgow Hockey Club are taking part in the Men’s 10K Edinburgh to raise money for Down’s Syndrome Scotland.
Kevin, a member of the club, said, “We’ve chosen to run for Down’s Syndrome Scotland, which is the only Scottish charity who provides advice & support to people with Down’s syndrome, their families and the professionals who work with them, such as teachers, midwives and health visitors.”
“Down’s Syndrome Scotland do excellent work listening to, and raising the voice of people with Down’s syndrome who are often overlooked in society, and particularly over the past 18 months or so. A number of our club members have a personal connection to Down’s syndrome so we’ve chosen to raise their profile and give something back to a charity that provides support to those who need it, when they need it.”
The club also took the Men’s 10K event as an opportunity to get the club members together after such a long break from hockey. They have been preparing by incorporating extra stamina training exercise into their weekly training sessions. Kevin said after a period of inactivity, the team are looking forward to “getting the club mates together for a bit of fun and friendly rivalry with a common purpose.”
This will also be the first time on the start line of a running event for some members of the Hockey Club.
“Not all of us have experienced the buzz or anticipation of the start line or have seen Edinburgh from the perspective of the runners, so it will be a first for some, and crossing the finish line at the iconic Murrayfield Stadium is unique too, there’s nothing quite like it!”
This isn’t the hockey club’s first fundraising event for the charity however, having taken part in the Spartan Race events in 2014 and 2015. Kevin also abseiled off the Forth Rail Bridge in 2010 for the charity. An incredible feat!
What an amazing effort from the whole team for raising money for an amazing charity! Well done team 🙌
